Veronica has had surgery! 💚


Over the past year, Care4Burn have been raising money so that Veronica could have her tracheostomy removed – a tube she has lived with for over 3 years, after extensive burns on 55% of her body. Yesterday it finally happened.


The surgery was carried out, and her doctor says it was successful. Veronica is now in the ICU, where she will be on controlled ventilation for a few days. This is the first of two surgeries – but the most important step has been taken.


We met Veronica back in 2022 at the Burn Department. She is one of the bravest girls we have ever met. She has been through more than most adults, but she has never given up.
Thank you so much to all of you who have contributed to the purchase of the surgical equipment, which was absolutely crucial for the surgery.

Outreach visit to Same District Hospital

Outreach visit to Same District Hospital 🏥

Same District Hospital is a public health facility located in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. The hospital is located approximately 2.5 hours drive south of Moshi and provides basic health services.

Complicated injuries, such as burn injuries, are referred to KCMC. Over 50% of patients admitted to KCMC’s burn department are referred from Same hospital.


In November 2025, staff from KCMC’s burn department visited Same hospital. The visit was successful and meaningful, and marked the start of a series of planned field visits to nearby district hospitals – the purpose of which is to strengthen the relationship between health professionals in the region. Both education and exchange of experiences are in focus during the visits, which contributes to better treatment of burn patients throughout the region 🔥

2025 has been a year of progress, tangible results, and—most importantly—a real difference for children with burn injuries in Tanzania. None of this would have been possible without your support.

This year, we have strengthened our efforts for children with burn injuries in Tanzania—not only through improved treatment, but also by supporting their rehabilitation, play, and learning during long hospital stays. New specialized training equipment is now in use at the burn unit, giving children better opportunities for recovery and progress. At the same time, surgical care has been strengthened with new, life-saving equipment and medication that are already making a noticeable difference for many children 🔥

Esther’s story

Four-year-old Esther suffered a serious injury when an old kerosene lamp exploded – an incident that changed everything.
When she was admitted to KCMC Hospital, the injury had worsened and required a skin graft. Thanks to the surgical equipment donated by Care4Burn, she is now recovering 🌱

Norwegian plastic surgeon to KCMC

During the summer, Arvid Eriksen (no. 2 from the left) and his family will move to Moshi in Tanzania, where he will work as a volunteer at the KCMC hospital for one year. Arvid is a trained plastic surgeon with a passion for burn treatment.

At KCMC, he will contribute to building the local capacity in the treatment of burn injuries – both by training surgeons and nurses and by strengthening the technical equipment needed to provide children and adults with the best possible care.

An important focus for Arvid is to establish a dedicated team for the treatment of burn injuries and to ensure access to imperative surgical equipment. Among other things, he will bring with him an electric dermatome (Humeca D80), donated by Care4Burn, which enables repeated, gentle skin grafts from the same donor area.

We look forward to follow Arvid’s work and wish him all the best in his preparations for his departure! 🔥

Care4Burn donates electric dermatome to KCMC – essential in modern burn care

In cases of severe burns, there is often a limited area of healthy skin available for grafting. Especially in children with extensive injuries, it is absolutely crucial to harvest thin and even skin grafts – and to be able to reuse the same donor site multiple times.

🔸 An electric dermatome makes this possible. Unlike manual tools such as the Watson or Humby knife, an electric dermatome allows for grafts to be taken thin enough for the donor area to be used again. This is key to safe and effective treatment – and often critical for the patient’s recovery.

🔸 That’s why an electric dermatome is not just useful, but essential in modern burn care – and should be available in hospitals like KCMC.

Care4Burn is proud to share that we have received a dedicated donation used to purchase an electric dermatome – a Humeca D80 – for the Burn Unit at KCMC.

Over the past six months, Care4Burn, in collaboration with KCMC, has directly helped nine patients – both children and adults – with severe burn injuries and related complications such as chronic wounds, infections, malnutrition and respiratory damage.


The support we have provided has covered life-saving medication and surgical procedures, with the costs in the most serious cases reaching 2.6 million TZS per patient, equivalent to approximately 7,000 DKK.


All patients have now been discharged and back in their own homes – and thanks to your contribution, they have had access to treatment that would not have been possible otherwise.

Lasting Change – Outreach Visits to District Hospitals

One area we have discussed for a long time in Care4Burn is finally becoming a reality: outreach visits to district hospitals that refer burn patients to the Burn Unit at KCMC.
During our most recent trip to Tanzania in November 2024, we sponsored an outreach visit to Haj District Hospital – a hospital that refers around 20% of KCMC’s burn patients.

The visit clearly demonstrated the huge difference face-to-face meetings can make. Initial hesitation quickly turned into open dialogue about challenges, needs, and experiences – especially regarding first aid for burns. The visit strengthened collaboration between staff at the district and specialized hospitals, with a strong focus on training, capacity building, and improving treatment coordination.

We are therefore proud and happy to announce that we have received funding to carry out 12 new outreach visits in 2025/2026! 🙌

The staff is already busy planning, and we are excited to follow the development and see the positive outcomes these initiatives will bring.
These outreach visits are a crucial step toward building sustainable improvements in burn care in Tanzania – from the first contact at district hospitals to specialized treatment at KCMC.

Salma 14 years old

Salma’s Story – When Help Reaches Beyond Burns 🔸

14-year-old Salma was bitten by a snake on her right foot. The unfortunate bite developed into a chronic wound that required a skin graft to heal.

Although Care4Burn’s main focus is burn patients, we supported her treatment and the necessary surgery. It’s important to us that the surgical equipment we’ve donated to KCMC Hospital also benefits other patients – like Salma – who need skin grafts to regain their life and daily routines.

Occupational therapy – new equipment for the Burn Unit

Occupational therapy is crucial for the rehabilitation of burn-injured children at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center (KCMC). The focus is on rebuilding the children’s physical functions while maintaining their joy in play and learning during often lengthy hospital stays.

Heavenlight and Thomas, the department’s dedicated occupational therapists, work daily with the children to strengthen their muscles and tissues as part of the healing process, ensuring they can return to a normal everyday life after discharge.

Ergonomic equipment such as “walking chairs,” “standing frames,” and “balance boards” plays a vital role in this process and in the children’s rehabilitation and progress. Care4Burn supports this work and, in 2024, commissioned specialized ergonomic equipment for the department. The equipment has been handcrafted by the hospital’s carpenter.

We are delighted to share that the necessary and specialized training equipment was delivered to the Burn Unit this week. The equipment helps provide the best conditions for the children’s rehabilitation.

Together, we create better conditions for the children’s health and quality of life.
