10 year old with extensive injuries

31. May 2026/in Nyheder, Patienthistorier/by Karianne Fjære

A boy under the age of 10 is living with serious contractions after a burn injury he sustained as a child. The injuries have left him with extensive scar tissue that limits his mobility and affects his daily life to a degree that few can imagine.

Scar tissue in his right armpit has caused his arm to contract and cannot be extended. Burns on his abdomen and upper thighs have also created contractures, which have forced him to stand bent over for several years without the ability to straighten his body. In addition, he lives with a lung injury and has a tracheostomy.

With the support of the Outreach team at the burn unit, he has now been referred to KCMC, where his first surgery is scheduled for next week. It is expected that he will need 3–4 surgeries in total.

We will follow this brave boy’s journey in the coming months. Care4Burn is helping to sponsor his treatment and give him a chance for a better life ❤

21 years old, who just became a mother.

5. May 2026/in Nyheder, Patienthistorier/by Karianne Fjære

It’s hard to believe that she’s still alive.

She’s 21 years old. Maasai. Newly became a mother.
Shortly after giving birth, she became dizzy – and fell forward into the fire.
Her forehead. Her eyes. Her nose.
Everything was burned.
Again, treatment. No help.
For a whole year, she’s lived with open wounds on her face.
Her eyelids are so stretched out that she can’t close them.
She’s lost the sight in her right eye.
She only has a little sight left in her left eye.
Imagine living like that. For a full year.

When she finally came to KCMC, it was hard to find words.
How did she survive?

Now the treatment is underway.
The surgeons have made a skin flap from her forearm to her forehead.
The next step is to detach the flap and try to rebuild her eyelid so that her remaining vision can be protected.
It’s complex. It’s demanding.

It’s stories like this that remind us why our work is so important.
Care4Burn makes a difference where hope is almost nonexistent.
