Visit to KCMC in February

Care4Burn has a close collaboration with Children’s Burn & Wound Care Foundation (CBWCF) in Ethiopia. In February, burn surgeon Einar Eriksen, who is the founder of CBWCF and works as a plastic surgeon at the burn unit in Addis Ababa, was once again at KCMC to treat and operate hospitalized burn injured children and young adults. The goal was also to share knowledge and exchange various experiences with the Burn Unit’s staff.

The committed nurses at the Burn Unit at KCMC, which is led by chief physician Dr. Theresia, also participated in the operations Dr. Einar performed.

Dr. Einar operated on, among other patients, a smaller boy hospitalized with burn injuries to his face and chest. He performed a skin graft on the boy’s face. Dr. Einar also operated a boy who, due to untreated burn injuries as a child, had developed severe contractions around both his feet. Old scar tissue was removed, and with skin grafting and a cast on the ankles, the surgical team once again secured the boy’s future mobility.

Based on ongoing fundraising, Care4Burn regularly sends new equipment to KCMC, including mesh machines, Humby knives and blades, in addition to a wide range of skin staplers. This equipment is instrumental in enabling the mentioned, and often quite complicated, operations to be carried out in the unit.

Together we can make a difference.
